While the possibilities of the New Crescent sightings based on astronomical data were weak, we were in fact able to confirm the sighting of the New Crescent of the Holy Month of Ramadan, 1429 in the city of Detroit at sunset on Sunday August 31st, 2008 based on the religious standard of sighting with the naked eye. As such, tomorrow Monday September 1st, 2008 is the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan in North America based upon the principles of his Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani and the Late Grand Ayatollah Sayyid al-Khoei.
May Allah make it a blessed Month.

(This is a privately run camp with no association with any organization)
The goal is to provide a variety of activities for the Muslim Youth to:
Appreciate the free and liberal environment of learning in USA
Understand responsibilities as a US citizen and as a Muslim
Learn basics of being a good Muslim Youth
Specific learning would include: - Quranic recitations - Quranic etiquette - Islamic Behavior Code (Ikhlaq) - Islamic History (Stories of the Prophets) - Basics of Islamic Law - Essentials of Islamic Prayers - Individual and Group Competition
A two-week summer camp organized for the Muslim Youth

PICNIC on Sunday April 13, 2008 - Lake Crabtree Park - Beech Shelter
The picnic for coming Sunday, the 13th April is confirmed starting at 11:45 AM and the venue is Lake Crabtree Park, Beech Shelter. We plan to finish officially at 5:30 PM so please arrive timely to enjoy the most part of it. Bar-be-cue is planned at 2:30 PM, but people are welcome to bring other types of food as well. This is going to be a fund-raising picnic to cover the cost.
Donations are set as:
Individuals: 5 dollars each
Couples or couples with any number of under 5 year olds: 10 dollars max
Family: 15 dollars max
People are encouraged to bring cash with them in order to pay.
There will be variety of sports played during picnic. Please bring sport goods with you.

ARBAYEEN on THR FEB 28th
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Statement regarding the beginning of the Month of Safar 1429 A.H.
Based on the possibility of sighting the crescent at sunset Thursday February 7th, 2008 in some of the western parts of North America, the Crescent Committee of the Council of Muslim Shia Scholars in North America held its monthly meeting to determine the beginning of the Month of Safar. After investigating, the members of the committee were not able to identify and did not receive any reports of sightings of the crescent from any place in North America.
Based on this, Friday February 8th, 2008 will be the last day of the Month of Muharram, and Saturday February 9th, 2008 will be the first day of the Month of Safar.
It follows that the Fortieth day of Imam Hussein peace be upon him martyrdom will be on February 28th, 2008 and the day of Death of the Holy Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him and his holy household will be on March 7th, 2008.
May Allah accept your work and increase your reward.

Praise to Allah that we were able to commemorate the event of
Ashura. A special thanks goes to everyone in our communtiy who
attended the Majlis and to those who sponsored a dinner or the rent.
We will continue to have Imam Hussein's Majlis every weekend until

EID-UL-ADHA ON FRIDAY DEC 21ST
We shall be celebrating the Eid-ul-Adha on Friday Dec 21st. The Eid Salat will be held at Glen Eden Community Center at 8:00 AM followed by a potluck breakfast. Please bring a small carpet and a prayer rug with you.

Dear Believers in North America,
As-Salaam Alaikum.
The Helal Committee members of The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America held a conference call in regards to the Helal of the First day of Thul-Hajj, tonight December 10th at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
Based on all discussions and reports, the committee concluded that the crescent was not seen at today's sunset anywhere in North America. Therefore tomorrow, Tuesday Dec 11, is the last day of Thul-Qida. The first day of the blessed month of Thul-Hijja will be Wednesday December 12th 2007.
Consequently, the day of Eid-ul-Adha will be Friday December 21st 2007.
We hope that all pilgrims in this year's Hajj have a fruitful and safe trip, and look forward to their return. We pray to Allah to bless us all with a chance to visit his house every year.
Please don't forget us in your special Du'a for the Day of Arafa, which will be held in mosques and Islamic centers on Thursday, December 20th.

EID PROGRAM - PARKING DETAILS
INSHALLAH! we will be celebrating the Eid ul Fitr on Saturday Oct 13th,
2007.
As announced earlier Eid Prayers will be starting at 9:00 AM at Top
Green Building (Martin Luther Blvd). Due to the limitations in parking
places, we request all the Brothers to park on the side streets and not
in the parking for Top Green. There are parking places in the front and
back of Top Green Building.
We would like to keep the parking for Top Green for Sisters driving
cars, Brothers with supplies and some volunteers for shuttle etc.
We will use the adjacent parking at the Park as overflow parking and
will try to run a shuttle between Top Green and parking, if needed.
Please cooperate with our volunteers and if requested, please pray in
the 2nd Eid Prayers. We will all Inshallah get the chance to pray for
Eid Prayers, which is not a WAJIB prayer, but Sunnat and can be prayed
individually as well, until Dhuhur.
Once again the amount of Sadqa-e-Fitr is $7 per person and can be
deposited with IABAT. Please bring the money as cashin an envelope
clearly marked as Sayyid or Non-Sayyid and the amount in the envelope.
Please don't forget to bring a small carpet and a prayer rug. Also some
snacks to share with others for the breakfast, after the Eid Prayers.

EID MUBARAK - EID GREETINGS
Eid ul Fitr Inshallah will be celebrated on Saturday Oct 13th, 2007. The amount per person for the Sadqa-e-Fitr will be $7 per person. We will be having a collection box during the program for Syed and non-Syed. It is recommended that the Sadqa-e-Fitr be given before the Eid Prayers.
As annouced earlier the EID Prayers will be starting at 9:00 AM at Top Green Building.
We will be having 2-prayers and would request for your cooperation and support to our volunteers in parking etc.
Please bring a prayer rug and a small carpet with you. Also please bring something for breakfast to share with your Brothers and Sisters, after the Eid Prayers.

EID PROGRAM
We would like to offer all the Brothers and Sisters the Greetings for the Blessings of Eid. May Allah (SWT) accept All our Aamals during the blessed month of Ramadan and give us tawfiq to continue with the good deeds, after Eid.
Inshallah the Eid prayers will be held at Top Greene Building at 9:00 AM.
(The date for Eid will be announced after the sighting of the new moon. More chances for having Eid, by moonsighting.com and other web sites will be on Saturday Oct 13th, 2007)
Due to the limited space at Top Greene Building, we will be arranging to offer 2-Eid Prayers.
We will greatly appreciate support from atleast 10 volunteers to help us in the following:--
1) To set-up the hall for Eid Prayers
2) To help arrange the parking options. The overflow parking will be at the adjacent park (Chavis park). We will arranging a shuttle between the overflow parking and the Top Greene Building. There will also be be some parking on the street at the back street of the Top Greene Building. Please email at (iabat_nc @yahoo.com) and acknowledge your offer for volunteering for the event.
We are requesting ALL the BOT, IABAT Board members and Committee members to please volunteer themselves and help us make the necessary arrangements for the community to offer Eid Prayers. We will Inshallah be given the chance at the End to offer our Eid Prayers. Please confirm via return email at (iabat_nc @yahoo.com)
We are requesting the community for the following:--
1) To cooperate with the volunteers for parking and if requested, to wait for the 2nd prayers.
2) Please bring with you prayer rugs and if possible a small carpet.
3) We will Inshallah be having a potluck breakfast after the Eid Prayers, please bring with you something to share, if you are not contacted with specific request from IABAT.
